Community Helper Riddles: 30 Who Am I? Riddles for Kids

30 riddles Β· tap Hint or Answer to reveal

Every town runs on helpers. Someone drives the school bus, someone puts out fires, someone checks on sick pets, and someone makes sure the books at the library are ready for you. Kids see these people every day, and guessing who they are is a great way to talk about what they do.

These 30 community helper riddles are all β€œWho am I?” clues, told by the helper. The easy round has the helpers young kids meet most often, the medium round adds a few jobs with special tools, and the tricky round has helpers who work behind the scenes, where you might never see them at all. Anyone can do any of these jobs, so every clue is about the work, not the person.

Community Helpers in the Classroom

  • Helper charades: after each riddle, the class acts out the helper together: spraying a hose, flying a plane, scanning groceries. Then ask kids what tools that helper uses.
  • Who did you meet this week? Let kids pick a riddle about a helper they saw recently and tell the class where they saw them. It’s a great way to start a community map.
  • Write a thank-you: choose one helper from the tricky round, like the custodian or the dispatcher, and have students write or draw a thank-you card. Many of these helpers rarely hear it.
  • Make your own riddle: each child writes three clues about a family member’s job, and the class guesses. Remind them to describe the work, not the person.
