On Thanksgiving thereβs always a stretch of time when the turkey is still roasting, the grown-ups are busy in the kitchen, and the kids are getting restless. A scavenger hunt fills that gap perfectly. Each clue is a riddle that points to one spot in the house, and at that spot the kids find the next clue, all the way to a small prize at the end.
These 25 clues are written for a family home on Thanksgiving Day, which falls on Thursday, November 26 in 2026. They lead to everyday places like the fridge, the napkin drawer, the coat closet and the mailbox, with a few holiday twists. The easy clues work for kids as young as five, the medium ones take a bit more thinking, and the tricky ones are wordplay for older kids. Setup steps are at the end.

How to Set Up a Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunt
- Pick your moment. The best time is while the turkey roasts or in the gap between dinner and pie. Choose 8 to 12 clues for a 20-minute hunt, or more if thereβs a long wait. Leave out any spot you donβt have; not every home has a gravy boat or a curbside mailbox.
- Make a route. Write the spots in order and end at the hiding place of the prize. Mix rooms, so kids arenβt stuck in the busy kitchen, and skip any clue that would send them in the cookβs way at the wrong moment.
- Hide them as a chain. Write each riddle on a card (orange, brown or a paper leaf looks great). Hand out card 1, then hide card 2 at the answer to card 1, card 3 at the answer to card 2, and so on.
- Keep it safe. Clues for the oven, toaster and microwave go next to them, never on or inside them, and an adult should be nearby in the kitchen. Only use the mailbox clue if an adult walks out with the kids.
- Choose a prize. A bag of small treats, the first slice of pie, the job of saying the βthankful toastβ or a turkey-shaped cookie all make good prizes.
- Add a thankful twist. On the back of each card, ask a question like βName something youβre thankful for that starts with P.β Kids answer it before they run to the next spot.
Big-family tips: With lots of cousins, make two teams with different card colors and different routes that end at the same prize. Pair little kids with an older cousin as a βpilgrim guide,β and give each team one free hint to use whenever they like.
