Make It a Game

  • Rainforest layers: draw four layers (emergent, canopy, understory, floor) on a big sheet of paper. After each answer, kids decide which layer the animal or plant lives in and stick it there.
  • Kitchen safari: after the riddles about chocolate, vanilla and rubber, send kids to look around the house for other things that came from rainforests (bananas, coffee, cinnamon and cashews are all good finds).
  • Science lesson warm-up: every riddle here is a true fact, so a few of the medium ones make a quick start to a lesson on habitats or food chains.
