Leaf Riddles: 30 Fall Riddles About Leaves with Answers

30 riddles Β· tap Hint or Answer to reveal

Every fall, the trees put on a show: green turns to gold, orange and red, and then the leaves let go and come drifting down. These 30 leaf riddles are about that season and about leaves themselves: how they make food from sunlight, why they change color, and the animals that eat them.

The easy riddles are great for a walk in the park with little kids. The medium and tricky ones sneak in real plant science, so they work just as well in a classroom as at a backyard leaf pile. Every riddle has a hint, and every science fact has been checked.

Leaf Riddle Walk

  • Riddle scavenger hunt: take the easy riddles outside. Each time someone solves one, they have to find the real thing nearby: a leaf, a trunk, an acorn, a patch of shade.
  • Leaf rubbing answers: in class, have students put a leaf under a sheet of paper and rub over it with the side of a crayon. The veins appear, and they can write the answer to the veins riddle right next to them.
  • Pile it up: in a group, every correct answer earns one paper leaf added to a paper tree on the wall. Once the tree is full, the leaves β€œfall,” and you start the tricky round.
