Werewolves are pure legend: in old stories, a person turns into a wolf when the full moon rises. The moon in those stories is real, though, and itβs every bit as interesting as the monster. It really does go from full to full in about a month, and it has been inspiring spooky tales for thousands of years.
These 30 werewolf riddles mix the folklore with real moon and wolf facts. The easy round is about fur, howls and full moons, the medium round adds wordplay and moon science, and the tricky round has some big words, a logic puzzle and a little math. When a riddle is about the legend, the answer says so, so youβll always know whatβs story and whatβs science.

Werewolf Party Game: Moonrise
- How to play: one player is the werewolf and stands with their back to the group at one end of the room. Everyone else creeps forward while the reader asks a riddle. When someone answers correctly, the werewolf spins around and shouts βFull moon!β and anyone still moving goes back to the start.
- Howl for a hint: instead of reading the hint, the riddle reader gives one long howl, and the players can howl back to ask for it. Itβs noisy, so play this one at a party, not in a library.
- Legend or science? in a classroom, read each answer and ask students to sort it: is it from the werewolf legend, or a true fact about the moon or wolves? The full moon cycle, moonlight and lunar eclipses are great starters for a space lesson.
