Road Trip Riddles: 30 Car Riddles for Kids with Answers

30 riddles · tap Hint or Answer to reveal

Long drives are much shorter with a good riddle. These 30 road trip riddles are made for the car: most are about things kids can actually see out of the window, like bridges, tunnels, billboards and stop signs, so they double as a spotting game. There are riddles about the car itself, a few thinking puzzles about maps and directions for older kids, and a round of quick-fire jokes for when everyone needs a laugh.

The front-seat passenger can read them out, and nobody needs a screen. Each riddle has a hint, so even the youngest travelers can get there.

Make It a Game: Car Games with Riddles

  • Spot it first: read one of the “what you see” riddles. The first person to solve it and spot the real thing out of the window (a bridge, a billboard, a stop sign) scores two points.
  • Mile-marker riddles: ask a new riddle every time you pass a town sign or every 10 miles. Whoever solves the most by the next stop picks the snack.
  • Make up your own: each player secretly picks something they can see and describes it in three clues, “What am I?” style. Everyone else gets one guess per clue.
